Packing Day

We won't actually leave for a few more days, and we won't start pedaling for another week, but today was packing day.

Just a quick sanity check to see if all of our stuff will really fit into our bags. This was a success.

Before After

In fact, it turns out that packing for a 2-month bike trip is not much different from packing for our normal 1-week summer bike trips. The only real changes to our normal packing list were:

  • Bringing our own laundry detergent sheets so we can wash clothes in the hotel sink/tub when needed.
  • Getting a larger order of prescription medicine.
  • Deciding to bring a nice razor instead of suffering with a cartridge razor.
  • Using more durable construction-grade trash bags instead of kitchen bags to keep our stuff dry when it rains.
  • Bringing nail clippers instead of just cutting our nails just before we leave.

We fully expect that we will forget something and will need to buy some clothes/supplies/whatever. But, our first two weeks will be in the Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago area, and so we won't have to go far to find whatever we need. By the time we get to the more rural parts, in Michigan and Ontario, we'll be a well-oiled machine (right?)
