Leg 1, Ride 4: Waukesha to Milwaukee

Huge breakfast today, and a short ride. But, it doesn't matter -- I'm hungry the second I step off the bike.

Some minor issues on the ride today. The New Berlin Trail was "closed" until November. As is custom for bike trail construction, "closed" means "there's zero active work being done, and you can totally get through, but we put up closed signs anyhow which everybody will ignore".

We crossed from the Mississippi River (Gulf of Mexico) watershed into the St. Lawrence (Atlantic Ocean) watershed today. This continental divide is much less impressive than the one in the west! An almost imperceptible change from very slightly uphill to very slightly downhill. We'll cross back and forth again a few times over the next week or so.

We were exclusively on off-road trails today, until the very last few blocks in Downtown Milwaukee.

Weather was a bit chilly today. Very comfortable while riding, but a little cold at rest breaks.

A quite short 24-mile day today, and luckily for us, the hotel let us check in very early. We're basically going to just rest our legs until dinner time today. Tomorrow, we have a day off here in Milwaukee, before we turn south towards Chicago.
